Bergen Day 6 Friday 1/08/2025
After our first day at sea we docked at Bergen which was founded in 1070 and has played a major role in Norwegian history and culture since Olav the Good founded the city. Perched between the sea and seven hills, Vikings set sail on voyages of exploration, trade and war. In the Middle Ages its old port was a major trading hub for the Hanseatic League, the band of Germanic merchants whose trading empire encircled the Baltic and North Seas. We had a bus tour taken in the old town church the fish market a walk through Bryggen's Museum of the Germanic merchants with its wooden buildings where craft people would produce and sell their wares, our next stop was the funicular for a ride to the top of one of Bergen's seven mountains and departed at 2000 Hrs and we were given a farewell rainbow.
