Hanga Roa, Easter Island Day 42 Temp 20 Monday 8/9/2025
After four days at sea we are now sailing around Easter Is or Hanga Roa which ever you like to call it but because of the Chilian Government we are not allowed to get any closer than two mile.
The Monoliths of Easter Is have fascinated and puzzled Westerners since the Duch seaman Roggeven made landfall there on Easter Sunday 1722. The society that produced the Moai flourished during the 16th and 17 centuries, but population growth, deforestation and food shortages led to its collapse. some 3400 people inhabit this 64- square-mile Island which lies some 2,200 miles equidistant from Tahiti and a South America. Islanders also possessed a script called Rongorongo, the only written language in all of Oceania.
Our circle of Easter IslandThis is as close as the Chilian authorities would let us be
