Day 45

Garboldisham

Today we picked up the car in Attleborough a Citron C3 we then went for a drive to West Dereham

stopping at Northwold, Whittington Wretton to see if we could find any thing in the church yards

found a couple of Bennett  and a Reeve that we have to check out then a nice drive back through the

English country side.

After dinner Roger and I went to the bowls club where Roger had practice and then a couple of

pints.

Day 44

Garboldisham England

Today was bright and sunny morning so Val and I caught the local bus to Bury St Edmunds a one

hour ride away and it was market day so it was a very busy town.

Today started of as yesterday with a steady rain still coming down so we caught up on our photos and

arranged the hire of a car and check out maps.

Day 41

Garboldsham

It was a late breakfast to start the day then Roger and I went down to check out Bardwell cricket club

as they were having a six a side knock out cricket day and a beer festival after tasting a couple of

pints we went back got Val and Jean and had a great day on the green watching the cricket and

enjoying a couple of pints or three we finished around 1900 and a great day was had by all.

Day 40

Diss

Another well earned lay in till 0915 then after lunch Roger Jean Val and myself had a short drive to

the little village of Bardwell Suffolk about  miles to see if we could find anything in our family tree

and we think we were successful Val and Jean are checking it out tonight,

On the way back home we stopped at the Bardwell windmill witch is on the millers walk after that

there was a stop at the Six Bells Inn and had a local pint.

Then on the way home just to top everything off we stopped and got fish and chips for dinner
 
then washed it all down with a couple more pints.

Day 39

London to Diss

A real lay in today for the first time a 0900 breakfast  then to make our way to Liverpool Street

Station for a 1130 train when we got to Gloucester Road station we found out that there was a train

drivers strike witch meant instead of going straight to Liverpool St we would have to take another

line and change trains and come back to Liverpool St carrying our bags up and down stairs.

Finely made it and a nice train ride thru the English country side to Diss where Jean and Roger
 
meet us and had a nice quite afternoon and evening with a couple of beers.

Day 38

Madrid to London

Today was a early start to the day as we had a 1050 flight to catch our car picked us up at 0750 for

our 25 minute ride to the airport then we had a 22 minute ride by driverless train to Terminal 5 for

our flight to London's Heathrow airport where it took 30 minutes to go through customs  then to the

underground where we found out  the blue did not stop at Gloucester Road because of renovations

but with our knowledge of the system we just change lines at Hammersmith and got to our hotel no

problems.

After checking in and a little rest we went out for a feed of  English fish and chip.

Day 37

Madrid

The tour is over but got early to say goodbye to those who were leaving on the second and third bus

and the ones who were leaving on there own like Wayne and Kathie had breakfast then went back to

bed for a couple of hours then had a walk down town to the museum of modern art with Robin and

Sue then back to our hotel repacked our bags had a light dinner and tomorrow we leave Spain.

Day 36

Granada to Madrid

Today was the last day on the road a 420 km drive into Madrid thru the Spanish country side and the

land of Don Quixote the wine centre of Valdepenas We visited one of the bodegas for a taste

and lunch.

Then we drove up to the windmills on the ridge above Consuegra for views over the plains of             

La Mancha before driving to Madrid.

This evening we had our farewell dinner and said goodbye to our new found friends, it was a great

dinner. Thanks to Jorge and Antonio for making our trip so enjoyable.

Day 35

Costa Del Sol  to Granada

We left Torremolinos for Granada with a stop at Mijas for a walk around the old streets and

gardens and take in the views of the coast before heading to Granada  to see the Alhambra Palace the 

lion court and the gardens of the royal summer residence.

This evening it was a dine-around were we choose our restaurant.

Great food and good company with a pleasant walk back to the hotel.

Day 34

The Costa Del Sol Spain

To day was a relaxing day with a lay in till 0830 started with a short drive to Malaga the birth place

of Pablo Picasso and visit to the old Moor fortress that overlooks the city followed by a walk around

town taking in sights such as the ancient Roman buildings We were. lucky enough to be in town for

the yearly fiesta which is held before the bull fight on Sunday.

Day 33

Tanger - Morocco to The Costa Del Sol Spain

Today was the earliest start we have had as our ship sailed at 0900 from Tangler to Tarifa where we

then went to The Rock of Gibraltar the Barbary Apes (monkeys) the legendary guardians of the

colony and St Michael's Cave  and had lunch at Roy's Fish and Chips before taking the scenic drive

along the Mediterranean coast to Costa de Sol.

In the evening it was a Torremolinos Mediterranean Dinner.

Day 32

Casablanca - to - Tangier  Morocco

It was a relaxing start to the day with a 0900 on the bus  and a easy drive to Rabat the capital of

Morocco to visit the tomb of Mohammad the V and the Royal Palace and the Hassan Tower then

to Tangier witch included sights of the Sultan's Palace and the famous Casbah.

Day 31

Today it was say goodbye to Marrakesh and head to Casablanca on the west coast of Africa a four

hour drive not quite the golden sands we are used to more crowed than ours as it is summer vacation

and it was 29 degrees

Day 30

Marrakesh

This morning it was a scenic drive into the foot hills of the Atlas mountains to Ourika Valley witch is

named the river that meanders through it.

And visit a typical home in a primitive Berber village.

Fes to Marrakesh  Morocco

Today it is all driving  from Fes to Marrakesh via the Atlas Mountains past mud-walled

Fes  Morocco

Next Morning we had a tour of Medina the walled city of hidden courtyards mosques and workshops

the bazaar.

Then late morning we went to Bhalil witch is a remote village at the in the foot hills of the middle

Atlas mountains where we visited the caves where these families have lived in primitive conditions

for many generations.

Day 27

Seville Spain - to Fes Morocco

Today was another early start because we had to make Tarifa for the ship was to sail at 1100 when

we got there at 1015 the 0900 ship had not departed because of engine fault we did sail around 1230

90 minutes late.

We crossed The Straits of Gibraltar in good time and docked at Tanger it was then a five hour drive
 
to Fes we got there just on dinner time.

Day 25

Lisbon to Seville

This morning we left Lisbon and headed for the Spanish border via the Tagud Bridge with a stop at

in the  morning at Grandola the on to Rosal de la Frontera for lunch before we arrived in Seville

the city of Carmen, Christopher Columbus burial place and the slender Giralda Tower and to see the

Alcazar and for dinner we went to a fiery Flamenco show getting back to our hotel at 2115

Lisbon

Again another early start with a sightseeing tour of Lisbon alone the avenues of the lower town to the

Terreiro  do Paco and visit Belem quarter from where the sailing ships set out to discover new

lands

In the afternoon we travel along the wealthy play ground of Estoril to  Cascais and 
 
the most westerly point of Europe to Sintra viewing an impressive former Royal palace.

Day23

Salamanca to Lisbon

Today was another early start as we left Salamanca and cross into Portugal and into the Estrela

mountains before arriving at Fatima where pilgrims flock to the  great Basilica.

There we had lunch and then arrived into Lisbon at 1700 freshen up and our bus took us down to the
 
ferry there we crossed the Tagus River where we had a Portuguese seafood dinner

After a bloody good night it was a very happy bus that took as back to our hotel

Tuesday 5th August 2014

Day 22

Madrid to Salamanca

Today we left Madrid at 0830 and our first was Toledo the old capital of Spain with a walk around

the old city.

Visiting the church of Santo Torme housing El Greco's famous painting and then to Avila to have

lunch where we got a beer and then found out they came with tapas so we got another beer and we

had enough to eat.

then Val and went back up to the town square to se the city by night.
